Our Guest of Honor:

Fred Collay
Language Consultant. Entrepreneur

"Working With The French"
(Travailler au côté des français)

In Fred's own words:
"Vous êtes en France, depuis une semaine, un mois, un an, un siècle (comme on s'ennuit à Paris...) et vous avez travaillé au côté des français."... C'est une expérience que vous souhaitez partager avec d'autres?

(A rough translation. You've been in France a week, a month, a year, a century (how boring Paris can be...) and you work with the French....It's an experience that you'd like to share with others?)

Fred Collay has been a language trainer for six years and decided to become self-employed (started up his own business in Paris) two years ago. He has a broad background which helps him in designing teachers' programs and activities. He is especially gifted in creating games, situations and topics.

After pursuing studies in journalism, history and communications, Fred moved from France to England, where he began his teaching career as an Extra English Teacher. Back in France in 2000, he moved forward, still teaching in schools and working in companies such as France Telecom and Renault. Then in 2005 Fred left schools behind him and started his own company C.L.E.F.(Clubs Linguistiques de Experience et de Formation) and secured clients such as Hilton, eBay, Mederic (insurance) and Crédit Mutuel. Fred’s clients have learned that they can expect good teaching (in French and in English) and a high level of interpersonal involvement.

On Thursday, for those who missed Fred's talk in February, he will also answer a few questions from "would be teachers" and offer brief concrete advice, based on his own experiences, in setting up a language business.

Patricia writes on being an Expat:
"... As the years went by, I also realized that the feeling of being foreign and other, transcends even race. You are not part of their (French) culture. It doesn't matter who you are or of what origin you are. You're either French (in your head and behavior), or not. When I began to see that, I began to identify myself as an expat. The sum of being an American who lives in Paris, an African-American trying to find roots here, minus not being French - but seeing life internationally - on a large scale and permanently, equals my personal experience of being an expat."

"Murder On The Ile St Louis"

Reviews for Murder on the Ile St Louis, the 7th Aimée Leduc Investigation, by Cara Black

From Library Journal:
Another taut, well-observed, and thoroughly entertaining Aimée Leduc mystery, this book continues the series blend of suspense and attitude engagée while nicely developing our heroine'

In a starred review Publisher's Weekly says 'This Paris has a gritty, edgy feel, and Black's prose evokes the sound of the Seine rising with the spring thaw.imée makes an engaging protagonist, vulnerable beneath her vintage chic clothing and sharp-witted exterior. A gripping seventh mystery to feature Parisian computer expert Aimée Leduc.'
Join Cara Black Chez Patricia's as she discusses her nationally best selling Parisian mystery series featuring Aimée Leduc, this time Aimée's investigation takes place on her home turf, the Ile Saint-Louis. Murder on the Ile Saint-Louis has spent twelve weeks on the San Francisco Chronicle bestseller list reaching # 1.
